BIM for designers
For architects and engineers who produce the models everyone else relies on: model to the information that's actually needed, export IFC that other people can use, check your own model before it leaves your desk, keep drawings and model in step, run design reviews in the model, and design out hazards. Each lesson ends with a practical exercise.

Chapter 1. Modelling for the information need
0/2 done- 1.1 Modelling to the information needDesigners lose weeks modelling detail nobody asked for, and miss the few properties everyone needs. Start from who uses each element, for what, and when.
- 1.2 IFC exports other people can useAn IFC export is only as good as its settings. Map your categories to the right IFC classes, put properties where others expect them, and test the file before you send it.

Chapter 2. Before it leaves your desk
0/2 done- 2.1 Checking your own model before you share itEvery problem you find before sharing costs you minutes; every one someone else finds costs the project days. Run the same checks the coordinator will run, first.
- 2.2 Drawings that match the modelDrawings and model are two views of the same design, and both are issued. Keep them in step: one source, the same revision, and nothing drawn that the model contradicts.

Chapter 3. Reviews and safety
0/2 done- 3.1 Design reviews in the modelA design review in the model is only useful if every comment ends up somewhere it can be found, owned and closed. Review against a purpose, capture comments as issues with a viewpoint, and close them in the next model.
- 3.2 Designing out hazardsDesigners decide most of the risks people will face when building, maintaining and demolishing a building. The model is where you can see them, remove them, and record the ones left.
