A community project for BIM professionals

Free tools, short lessons and plain explanations, made to help people do the job, and to get people sharing what they know.

What this is

BIMpedia started in the BIM community. It is for anyone who works with models and project information: coordinators, information managers, modellers, project managers, students. It isn’t a company product and it doesn’t try to look like one. The idea is simple: share what we know, and build what people need.

Ask for what you need

If you need something, ask on the forum. That is how this site grows. You can ask for:

  • More content: a lesson, a Pedia entry or a topic that isn’t here yet.
  • An explanation: something on a page isn’t clear, or doesn’t match how your projects work.
  • A new tool: a document or a check you still do by hand.
  • A full or custom tool: the tools here are kept simple on purpose, with no login and your work kept in your browser. If you need one with an account, so you can sign in and find your data later, or one built for your team, ask for that too.

All you have to do is ask, and join in when you can: answer someone’s question, share how your projects do it, say when something is wrong.

What’s on the site

  • Tools generate, check and track the documents coordinators work with — clash matrices and reports, meeting packs, RFIs, BCF issues, LOD matrices, IDS files, delivery plans, BEPs — as branded Excel, PDF and Word files.
  • Learn offers short, focused lessons with a quick check at the end, flashcards and your own notes.
  • Pedia explains standards, terms and workflows in plain language, with pointers to the source documents.

The forum is where it all connects: every lesson, entry and tool has its own discussion, and replies show up on the page.

Our privacy promise

You don’t need an account. You use a tool, then export your work to Excel, PDF or Word. Your browser keeps a draft so a refresh doesn’t lose anything, and you can export a whole project as a .json file to back it up or move it to another computer. If you log in with your forum account, your learning progress is saved to it so you find it on any device. Read the short privacy page.

About the content

Lessons and Pedia entries are written in our own words and describe standards such as ISO 19650 at a practical level. They are not a substitute for the standards themselves; each entry names the documents to consult. Spotted something wrong or unclear? Tell us on the forum.

Where BIMpedia is going

The big steps are below. The full roadmap lists every tool, lesson and feature — live and planned — and you can suggest what should come next on the forum.
