Chapter 2 recap
Before it leaves your desk
The key takeaways from this chapter’s 2 lessons.
Checking your own model before you share it
- Self-checking is the 'check' in ISO 19650's WIP to shared step: it belongs to the team that produced the work.
- Use the project's own requirements (an IDS file or the LOIN) as the checklist, not your own guess.
- Look at failures by cause, not one by one: one wrong export setting can fail a thousand elements.
- Record what you checked with each issue, so the reviewer can trust it.
Drawings that match the model
- Drawings are generated views of the model plus annotation; the model is the source.
- When drawings and model disagree, contractors build from whichever they open first.
- Issue drawings and model together, with the same revision and status.
- 2D-only detail (lines drawn over views) is fine for details, never for things others take from the model.
