Parameter (property)

A named value attached to an element or type in an authoring tool, such as height, fire rating or manufacturer.
Updated 5 November 2026Draft · awaiting review

A parameter is a named piece of information on an element or type in an authoring tool: its dimensions, materials, codes, ratings or any project data. Parameters can be built-in, defined in a family or object, or added by the project.

On export to IFC, parameters become properties in property sets. Defining them once, with agreed names and data types, keeps information consistent across teams.
