Appointing party

The ISO 19650 term for the client: the organisation that receives information about the works from those it appoints.
Updated 5 November 2026Draft · awaiting review

The appointing party is the party that receives information concerning works, goods or services from a lead appointed party. In everyday terms it is the client or asset owner, or someone acting for it, such as a project manager.

It sets the information requirements (EIR), establishes the common data environment, and accepts information at each milestone. ISO 19650 replaced the older UK term employer with appointing party.
