Security-minded approach

Managing information about sensitive assets so that it cannot be used to cause harm, as described in ISO 19650-5.
Updated 5 November 2026Draft · awaiting review

A security-minded approach assesses whether information about an asset — layouts, security systems, critical plant, occupants — could be misused, and puts proportionate controls in place: who can access what, how it is shared, and what is published.

ISO 19650-5 describes the process. It applies to assets such as government buildings, infrastructure and data centres, but the questions are worth asking on any project.
