An information container is a named, persistent set of information that can be retrieved from a file system or data store: a model, a drawing sheet, a report, a spreadsheet, or a set of records in a database.
Every container has a unique name following the naming convention, and carries metadata such as status, revision and classification. ISO 19650 uses the word to avoid assuming that information is always a "file" or a "document".
