Tolerance (clash)

The distance below which a clash test ignores an overlap, so tiny modelling overlaps are not reported.
Updated 5 November 2026Draft · awaiting review

In clash detection, the tolerance is the amount of overlap a test accepts before it reports a clash. A tolerance of 10 mm ignores elements that overlap by less than 10 mm.

Tolerances are set per test in the clash matrix, depending on the elements and stage. Too small produces noise; too large hides real problems. Raising tolerances to reduce the clash count is a common mistake.
